Review: Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

Hey Beauties!

So I know I’m probably really late on this but I thought I would still share it with you guys. I was recently on the hunt for a really good primer that would keep me matte throughout the day. I have really oily skin and without a good primer I look like I just splashed water all over my face by the end of the day. So I have tried a few, some high in and some drugstore brand but nothing was really working for me. Either they would be too drying for my face or didn’t last long enough for me. So one day I went into Walgreens just to do some looking and I came across this Rimmel Stay Matte Primer, I was skeptical at first but I couldn’t argue with the price, so I thought why not. The first time I used it I fell in love, at the end of the day I still looked dry and fresh. It doesn’t have a scent which I like and it doesn’t feel sticky like some other primers I’ve used. It does say that you can use it before your make up, after you applied it, or even alone. I did try to use it without and it ended up being super drying so I would suggest against it. I haven’t tried it after applying my make up yet so I can’t really give my take on that, I might try to mix it together with my BB cream and see it that will make it last longer. I would definitely recommend this to the girlies that have to deal with oily or even combination skin for a long lasting matte look. Has anyone else tried this before? If so let me know how you liked it 🙂

xoxo

Tips for new Naturalistas

So this March, it will be one year since I have been completely natural! It really is an exciting journey. When I finally made the decision to do my “big chop,” although scared, I was really excited to start something new. When I saw my hair fall onto the floor piece by piece I think I had a mini panic attack inside. Once it was over I ran to the mirror to be surprised by a shorter dry afro. I don’t know if I was expecting the luscious curls that I see so much all over YouTube and other media sites; but my feelings were mixed about what I was seeing in the mirror. I wasn’t too sure what to do next; what products do I use? What style should I try? The first thing that popped in my head was moisture! So I decided to go ahead and wash and deep condition to tame my newly chopped hair. After almost a year of being natural I’m not a pro but I have a lot more experience, and have a few tips to share with my newly big chopped naturalistas…

1. Embrace your unique curl pattern and texture. Don’t compare yourself to others because that will only lead to disappointment, and that would make you forget the real reason you decided to take the journey in the first place.

2. Find a routine that works for you. Find a regimen that you know you can stick to that will benefit your hair. Find products that work for your hair. Trust me, you will have to try a few different things and combinations. I myself have a full basket of hair products (I’m a product junkie lol). Make sure you have a good wide tooth comb as well as a satin bonnet or satin pillow case (cotton anything is a NO NO!)

3. Remember that everyone’s hair is different, and that length is not what is the most important, you want healthy & happy hair. Remember to try to limit your heat use and you will really see your hair thrive. Everyone’s hair will grow differently. When you look at someone’s before and after photo after they typically have been natural for maybe a year or two, please remember that.

4. Try to find a good support group and maybe some other naturals. I know this was extremely helpful for me during my beginning stages. Finding other people that may be going through the same feelings as you will keep you strong so that you don’t go back to the creamy crack lol. I also found it helpful because other naturalistas was able to give me tips and tricks that I couldn’t think of.

Those are a few tips that I could think of that have helped me get to one year and has helped keep pushing forward. Becoming natural is something more than just your curl pattern and textures, for me it was something bigger than that and I think everyone’s journey will be different. I hope I helped at least one person whether you are in your transitioning stage right now or still considering whether or not to take that plunge. If you have tips of your own, I would love to hear, leave them in the comments!

A C N E

If you are like me or any other normal person in the world, I’m sure you have had your run in with acne. I recently had a huge breakout with cystic acne, which is very painful, but has left a lot of scaring behind. So immediately I hopped on it, did my research and started trying some different things. Here are a few things that helped me…

1. Raw honey and crushed aspirin. I know it sounds weird but it definitely worked. Honey is naturally antibacterial which helps with acne treatment and also preventing it in the future. It is super moisturizing and helps with opening the pores so that they are easier to clean. Aspirin is anti-inflammatory and help with any redness and puffiness that may occur. I usually cleanse my face and then make a mask with the honey and aspirin, I would then apply that all over or just the affected area, you can use this as an overnight mask or leave it on for 10-15 minutes and rinse off with cool water.

>Side Note< I would suggest you use any facial cleanser that works best for your skin. I have tried Proactive and it actually made my skin worse. I now use The Body Shop tea tree facial wash because tea tree is also another ingredient that helps with the appearance of dark marks. I also use the Olay facial brush because it seems to really clean deep down in the pores, more than what my hands can do.

2.Toner. I personally use Thayers Witch Hazel (with lemon). What I love about this toner is that it has aloe vera in it which is also known to help with fading dark marks. Toners are helpful with cleaning any left over dirt that may have been left behind, sometimes it is also good for a little refresher throughout the day (especially if you are oily like myself). Some toners have different ingredients in them, so once again you will have to choose what is best for your skin.

3. A good moisturizer. I use Aveeno or Nivea, in the colder weather I am able to use my beloved coconut oil (which I use for everything) but when it is hot that is a bad idea! I also like moisturizers with some type of SPF in them because it helps protect my face when I go outside, making sure the dark marks don’t get darker and all my hard work goes to waste.

& last but not least….(this step is optional)

4. Exfoliator. DO NOT do this everyday, this is something that should be done 1-2 times a week…tops. Exfoliating helps remove all the dead skin and gunk that was left there throughout the week, and it makes your face feel so good. I don’t use anything in particular, it’s normally whatever I find on sale or what smells really good. I only exfoliate once a week since I use my Olay facial brush…I don’t want to cause too much irritation.

So I hope these tips help somebody that has or is going through what I went through. If you have any tips of your own please let me know!

Alert alert alert!

So I’m pretty sure I’m late to the party 😔 but I just fell in love with Wet n Wild lipstick! 😳. Not only are they affordable but they are super pigmented. I only got two colors for right now but I definitely will be getting more.

I did my cousins hair for the holidays and she loved it. This was my first time styling someone else’s hair and it came out great. Let me know what you guys think!

I want to redo my style this year….just not sure where to start. I dress pretty well for a bigger girl but I want to step it up and get out of my comfort zone and try stuff I haven’t before. Any ideas?

My Ladies

My ladies, stop comparing yourself to other girls. We are all beautiful and unique in our own ways. I know I have a bad habit of comparing myself to other girls especially if I think my boyfriend thinks they’re cute, but that’s an insecurity within myself….always trying to be better than the next chick. We (girls) have a horrible habit of tearing each other down instead of trying to uplift one another. Everyone is beautiful….sure you may not have a feature that the other girl has but that doesn’t make you any less pretty. And STOP letting this men make you feel like you have to look a certain way….if that’s the case then he ain’t the one for you. Be with someone who thinks you are beautiful even on your worst days when you want to crawl back in bed and try it again tomorrow. Find someone who looks at you for more than just your breast or your ass….Find someone who can make you feel special. Too often have I put myself down thinking that my boyfriend didn’t think I was as pretty as other girls…when in fact it has been myself looking and wanting to be like someone else. Embrace what makes you you and love yourself flaws and all. How about this…the next time you go to talk bad about someone try to find something to compliment them about instead.

I hate taking naps in the middle of the day because then I’m up all night and I still have to get up early tomorrow. Anyways vacation is in 5 days, I know you’ll probably sick of seeing the countdown but you must understand how excited I am…it has been 3 long months and I really miss my boyfriend. On another note there’s some other exciting things coming up, I’m thinking about doing a giveaway of some sort because I have a lot of beauty products that I just bought (and haven’t opened) that I really don’t need. I might add some other things in there as well…..but I need ideas. What else?…..my favorite time of the year is coming around and that of course is Thanksgiving…and then Christmas. I’m really excited about Christmas because my goal is to be in our new place celebrating with my baby on his birthday for the first time since we’ve been together! I know I’ve been slacking and I plan on trying to post at least three times a week…but I always get backed up on things….I think I want to do more advice posts (beauty and non beauty) but I haven’t quite decided. Well I’m going to try to get some sleep because I know I will regret this in the morning.

The countdown is on!

Vacation is in 12 days and I’m so excited! Can’t wait to look at some apartments and hopefully pick one so we can get this move on the road. Last month and this month have been really stressful, been working really hard, sleeping very little and been breaking out like crazy. I feel like a teenager all over again, I’m trying to get myself together before I go see my boo so I have somewhat changed my diet and been using some different products to get my skin back the way it was. I hear some naturals say they have experienced some minor breakouts once they turned natural, has anyone else found that to be true? Give me some recommendations on what I could use on my face.
